Tile Care & Maintenance

Daily Tile Care

There are plenty of measures that you can take that will help preserve your elegant tile floors daily. First, use mats at all entranceways and have guests remove footwear at the door when they enter the home. Brush your pets frequently to reduce the amount of hair and dander and trim all pet claws to prevent scratching the tile. Also, you can add area rugs to your tile floors for an extra layer of protection against foot traffic, pets, and spills!

Dirt, Debris, Spills & More

To keep your tile looking dazzling and fantastic, it’s incredibly important to keep the surface free of any offenders! Tracked-in dirt, debris, dust, and pet dander can all become abrasive over time and scratch the surface. If a spill occurs on your tile, you will want to treat it as promptly as you can to prevent moisture from pooling and creating a slipping danger, as well as potentially staining any grout work within your floor.

When it comes to removing dirt and debris most effectively from your tile surface, we recommend that you sweep with a soft bristle broom, dust-mop, or vacuum daily or as frequently as possible. Always disengage all vacuum beater bars and we recommend that you verify with your tile manufacturer’s warranty before using a robot vacuum cleaner.

If a spill or pet accident occurs on your tile, start by gently lifting and removing any solid material with a spoon and paper towels. Next, wipe up the liquid spill with a dry, clean white cloth or paper towels. You can then use a gentle tile-specific cleaner to spot treat as needed. For an efficient deep clean, tile floors have enough moisture resistance that allows you to wet-mop or use a Swiffer WetJet cleaning system specifically designed for tile. If your grout work needs to be cleaned, use a grout-specific cleaner and a grout brush to restore a clean appearance.
