Hardwood Care & Maintenance
Daily Hardwood Care
There are plenty of measures that you can take that will help preserve your gorgeous hardwood planks daily. First, use mats at all entranceways and have guests remove footwear at the door when they enter the home. Brush your pets frequently to reduce the amount of hair and dander and trim all pet claws to prevent scratching the wood. Also, you can add area rugs to your hardwood floors for an extra layer of protection against foot traffic, pets, and spills!
Dirt, Debris, Spills & More
To keep your hardwood looking radiant, it’s incredibly important to keep the surface free of any offenders! Tracked-in dirt, debris, dust, and pet dander can all become abrasive over time and scratch the surface. If a spill occurs on your hardwood, you will want to treat it as promptly as possible to prevent moisture from creating any adverse effects to your floors. Moisture on hardwood can create warping, cupping, cracking, and oxidation over time if left untreated.
When it comes to removing dirt and debris most effectively from your hardwood surface, we recommend that you sweep with a soft bristle broom, dust-mop, or vacuum daily or as frequently as possible. Always disengage all vacuum beater bars and verify with your hardwood manufacturer’s warranty before using a robot vacuum cleaner.
If a spill or pet accident occurs on your hardwood, start by gently lifting and removing any solid material with a spoon and paper towels. Next, wipe up the liquid spill with a dry, clean white cloth or paper towels. You can then use a gentle hardwood-specific cleaner to spot treat as needed. Always consult your hardwood warranty before wet-mopping or using a Swiffer WetJet cleaning system specifically designed for hardwood floors.
